September 26, 2016

Dear VVHS Parents/Guardians,

Due to the continued growth our community and school are experiencing, which has been reflected in our overcrowded classrooms, it was necessary for us to reduce many class sizes and reduce the number of students each teacher works with (teacher caseload); this process is called ‘leveling’. This was required in order to bring VVHS into compliance with State law around class sizes and teacher caseloads. These changes had to be made in many classes and across every grade level.

All of the new classes added to the schedule are being taught by our existing staff. We made every attempt to keep the schedule changes minimal with each student impacted. Students were randomly selected for schedule changes, in order to accomplish the necessary leveling of classes and overall teacher caseloads. We know that making a change in routine is difficult. Our teachers are working with the students to help them with the adjustments they will have to make to settle into the new schedules.

If your student has a new teacher for one or more classes, please contact that teacher to gather information about the class and how you can help your student with this adjustment. The teachers will work with you and your student through this process. Please contact teachers at 505-890-0343, or visit our website at vvhs.aps.edu to locate email addresses under the ‘Faculty Websites’ button.

If you would like to speak with a counselor or administrator regarding your student, please contact your student’s Academy Office.

Sincerely,

Valerie Atencio

Principal
